About Us

How We Began

Following the passing of Nascar Racing Legend Benny Parsons in January 2007, the Benny Parsons Race Against Hunger charity was established with a mission. No child in Wilkes County or the surrounding counties will go without food. Every year, this charity diligently raises funds to provide nourishing food for the children of Wilkes County and its neighboring areas, as a way to give back to the community and honor Benny's enduring memory.

To achieve this, the charity organizes an annual golf tournament and silent auction, both of which serve as significant fundraising events. Honoring Benny Parsons

In 2023, Benny Parsons was honored by his hometown as they dedicated the Benny Parsons Grandstands at the reopening of North Wilkesboro Speedway, during the open house before the all-star race.

Feeding The Children of Wilkes County and The Surrounding Counties.

In December, the Benny Parsons Race Against Hunger hosts the most extensive single-day food drive, where an astounding amount of over 1 million pounds of food is generously provided to the children of Wilkes County and neighboring areas. This heartwarming event allows the children to partake in a unique shopping experience, ensuring they have access to the essential nourishment they need.

Golfing for the Children of Wilkes County and the Surrounding Counties.

As part of its fundraising efforts, the Benny Parsons Race Against Hunger organizes an annual Golf Tournament during the fall, held in October. This exciting event follows a 4-man Captain's Choice format, allowing teams to participate and contribute to the cause. The registration fee for each team is set at $240, or individual players can join for $65 each.

For those seeking an extra edge, mulligans are available for purchase at $5 each, with a maximum limit of 2 per player. Participants can enjoy friendly competition in three flights, adding to the thrill of the day. Additionally, snacks and beverages will be provided, ensuring that all attendees have an enjoyable time while supporting the noble cause of the Benny Parsons Race Against Hunger.

Silent Auction

The Silent Auction presents a wonderful opportunity to bid on exclusive racing memorabilia, generously donated to support the charity's fundraising efforts. Alongside the golf tournament, this event has been instrumental in raising close to $750,000.00 in funds, enabling the charity to provide much-needed food to nourish the children of Wilkes County and its neighboring areas.

Thanks to the proceeds from the Silent Auction and the golf tournament, this incredible initiative helps feed thousands of kids annually, making a significant and positive impact on their lives. The collective efforts of the community ensure that these young ones receive the nourishment they require for their well-being and growth.
